School bus involved in intersection accident with a truck in Baton Rouge area

USAttorneys

Baton Rouge, LALarge vehicles are at higher risk for accidents because they can be more difficult to control and maneuver. When multiple large vehicles such as buses and trucks are in close proximity to each other, the chance of an accident increases greatly. There is also an additional risk of serious injuries if there is a high speed impact from the collision.

Nola.com reported on an accident involving a school bus and a pickup truck in the Little Woods section of New Orleans [1].

School bus and pickup truck collide resulting in one injury

The accident involved a pickup truck that overturned at the intersection of Hayne Boulevard and Vanderkloot Ave just after 7 am. A school bus was involved in the crash with the truck, but first responders at the scene said no one on board was hurt at the time. The bus was spotted against a fence after colliding with the object, but no other damage to the vehicle was apparent at the time. Because the investigation was ongoing at the time of the report, no exact cause of the accident was given.

New Orleans Police reported that one driver from the pickup needed to be taken to a local hospital for treatment following the incident. Photos of the scene showed the truck at rest on its side against a building and a tow truck arriving.

Responsibility for the accident

In situations such as this, there can be entities other than the individual driver who are responsible for the damage. Both bus drivers and truckers generally work for businesses or school districts, and their employers will have special insurance to cover these kinds of accident costs. There are also legal principles related to liability which state that employers are strictly liable for the actions of workers engaged in their normal job duties, which would include driving in this case. Anyone who was injured can potentially file a lawsuit to ask for their medical treatment costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering to be covered by the driver responsible, which will likely end up being paid by their employer or insurance company. An accident attorney can provide additional information about this process.
